LOVE STORY – DISCO ‘Disco’ is a universal word that is easier experienced than explained. That is probably why new generations are so easily drawn to it. The underground has, and still is calling for people who are not afraid, but thrilled by new experiences. Remember stepping into a night club and getting hit with a beat that takes over you? It starts with an uncontrolled bumping of the head. Slowly your hole body is hypnotized into the beat. When the melodies enter something inside you explodes and lifts you way up. And that’s it. You are in and hooked. Your whole being is begging for the DJ to fly you to undiscovered places. Lucky for all of us, he does take us there. This moment feels new, hedonistic, fun, cosmic and completely unforgettable. LOVE is thrilled to have Aeroplane, the undisputed king of the new era of Disco come and take us on a trip, where time and space do not exist. Buckle up, order a drink, close your eyes and come with us. On this dance-floor, we CAN fly. LOVE. Brings us all together.

“I have always loved disco. Although I have ventured to quite a wide range of musical styles in my days, I have always been drawn to the multicolored light that the mirror ball sprinkles, like a moth whose faith is sealed at the moment he sees the flame.
If anything, disco has a definite sexual dimension to it. The pulsating bass calling your hips, the siren’s whispering call to the red, velvet side of dance music. From the early New York days disco set the scene for unforeseen hedonism, fast fingers in the dark corners, puffing of the imaginary feathers on the blazing dance floor. It was not all cute scandinavian kisses from Abba. Soon Italy would become the source of the cheesiest and greasiest disco records, piano sprinkled, teasingly slow dance floor weapons. Sweat blended into sweat, and the foundations of the modern club culture were laid. Disco would become the refuge for freaks of all shapes and colours, and while the commercial rise of disco was followed by the fall of it, that’s what disco always remained like in the underground. Freedom of dance, for everyone.
Of course disco made its inevitable comeback a few years ago. And on the top of that new wave of disco Aeroplane was riding. With an amazingly fresh production style the belgian duo of Vito de Luca and Stephen Fasano took what was italo disco and made it into something of their own. Anthemic compositions with heart piercing melancholia, songs that are happy in a sad way, bittersweet like the last days of summer sun. Shamelessly melodic, irresistibly danceable. I was in love from the first sounds of it. That was not love of the mature fashion either. I was bounced back in time, propelled into a teenage first kiss frenzy, being thrown around by vigorous hormones exploding through the blood stream. For me it was sex disguised as music. Not in a shy, flirty way either, but like the demanding, firm hands of an experienced lover, borderline rude in their overwhelming self-assurance. With the genre defining singles like Caramellas, Superstar and Without Lies, breathtaking remixes like the global super hit versions of “Paris” by Friendly Fires and “William’s Blood” by Grace Jones, and of course the eventual “We Can’t Fly” -album we all got to marvel at what quickly became the Aeroplane trademark sound. Big as a jetliner taking off, glimmering in the sun, never ending lift off. There would also be, and still is, a new Aeroplane DJ -mix available online for free every single month, always surprising me with amazing new music I have never heard before.
Although many have tried to mimic the Aeroplane sound and style from the very beginning, they all have failed. Aeroplane firmly remains at the top of the modern disco movement, making people lose themselves on the floor wherever the scent of kerosene is mixed into the night air. Fasten your seat belts and turn off your electronic appliances. Hold on tight, we’re going high.”

Agent Pekka, an illustration agency based in Helsinki and the first organization of its kind in Finland, was established in September 2007. Launched during Helsinki Design Week, Pekka works both in Finland and abroad, promoting Finnish talent worldwide.
Of Pekka’s 22 illustrators, 20 are Finns, and two are Finnish resident expatriates. “We tend to point out the fact that Pekka is a Finnish illustration agency. There is an amazing amount of talented illustrators in Finland, so it’s been a real challenge to keep the number of illustrators we represent at around twenty. While we wanted to offer our clients a broad range of styles, we also wanted to keep the package manageable”, says Pablo Steffa, Managing Director of Pekka.

BASS! – How Low Can You Go?
I remember it like it was just last weekend. Me and my mates had been clubbing for 2 days and nights non-stop. The final leg of our clubbing crusade had come to full hault at the massive queue outside this abandoned warehouse just outside Vauxhall in southern London, people rushing and pushing from all sides trying to form a line while the bouncers the size of a mountain were screaming and shoving the punters to go back on the line, trying desperately to keep order, all the while chaos was just about to abrupt.
Had we been standing in the cold, autumn morning for an hour, two or three, none of us could really say. All of sudden, this young girl was standing in front of us. She said: “You guys look really cold. Come, I´ve got something to show you.” We glimpsed at each other in disbelief but followed the epiphony back in the alley, just behind the club, where a small corridor was barely visible. The girl said: ” Wait here, I´ll be right back.” She knocked on a huge steel door three times. The door swung open, and the sight of things blew us away. There was a man dressed up as a centaury, smiling, and beside him, a dwarf with a crazy ass grin on his face, smoking a huge cigar, dressed up as one the players from Clockwork Orange, with the cane and all. We passed the creatures – nervously smiling at each other, and followed the girl down a spiral staircase. I could hear the muffled echo of the bass growing louder…
What seemed like an eternity to climb down the stairs, was nothing to compare to the sight of things when we finally entered the club. There must have been thousands upon thousands of people. What once used to be an old railway pit-stop, had now been transformed to an mystical paradise of yestermorrow, a place where time stood still and all fantasies were about to come alive. Lasers swooping from all directions, a huge mirrorball in the middle of the room crystalizing every beam of light into the skins of sweaty clubbers. It was dark, it was underground, it was twisted, and we were just about to lose it. I could literally FEEL the bass, from the tip of my toes to the last hair standing on my neck. Final thing I remember was looking at my mates, hugging each other in unity, love and understanding, THIS was why we were, THIS was all we needed.. we let the music take control, and then it all went black..
8 hours later we´re sitting quietly on a train, smiling, all of our eyes half closed, on our way home. Of all the clubbing trips we took together, this was the one to write about, to tell our mates over a pint, of how one night can change your perception on LOVE, music and friendship. We were together, as one, our lives mystically entwined to the sounds of the underground. We had been on a journey that not only had enlightend our minds, but brought us to the roots of the ancient old ritual, the dance, the rhythms, the people coming together to celebrate LIFE.
